Building Civil Society for Health
The challenges for Public Health in Europe are increasing due to globalisation, demographic change and fundamental societal trans-formations.

A strong civil society is seen as a resource to balance negative consequences.

During this summer course we will explore (trans-)figurations of European civil societies and possibilities to increase the control over the determinants of health of individuals and societies by building civil societies.

The programme includes interactive lectures in the morning and country presentations with international project work in the afternoon. During a field trip to civil society organisations in Magdeburg you will discover the city and its challenges today 20 years after the fall of the wall. Magdeburg and its region Saxonie-Anhalt as a 'Eastern German region' is strongly affected by the consequences of the unification: shrinking of the population, unemployment, emigration, etc... Here civil society is more needed than before to maintain healthy and just living conditions for the citizens. We will also travel to Berlin for one day, which is just 1,5 hours away from Magdeburg.

The second most beautiful Campus in Germany (official ranking), receptions, summer school dinners and BBQs, close by swimming lakes, sport activities and much more will make your stay an unforgettable experience. The most amazing thing about all this is, that you will acquire 8 ECTS credits. All this and accommodation in a single room, lunches during the week, catering in coffee breaks, learning material etc. are included in the student fee.
